6th DOLE Research Conference-Migration and Development
Theme:Migration and Development: Defining the Philippine Migration Policy

6TH DOLE RESEARCH CONFERENCE
11 December 2006, Angelo King International Center, Manila

In the continuing pursuit of policy-making based on research and critical feedback, the DOLE Inter-Agency Committee on Research Matters held the 6th DOLE Research Conference on 11 December 2006 at the Angelo King International Center. An annual event among researchers at the DOLE, the Conference focused on the theme “Migration and Development: Defining the Philippine Migration Policy”.

Plenary sessions during the Conference revolved on policy perspectives on migration as presented by Director Vivian F. Tornea of OWWA, Executive Director Dumia of the Department of Foreign Affairs, and Deputy Administrator May Dimzon of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration. The Conference was highlighted by a Keynote Speech from Secretary Brion where he recognized that researchers are essential actors in policy-making as they are catalysts of change and where he pointed out policy issues in managing migration flows which can be addressed by relevant research.
Meanwhile, the parallel sessions during the Conference where there were presentations of migration-related researches of other DOLE agencies or organizations, resulted to the specific policy recommendations that seek to address the social costs of migration as well as maximize its development potentials.
