Iloilo conducted media dialogue
by Bernie Gelardino, Child Labor Focal Person (DOLE-RO6)

Volume V, Number I, June 2005 Issue

Iloilo City - Media practitioners came face to face with children here in a landmark dialogue in which children’s concerns and the responsibility of media to provide child-friendly information were discussed.

In celebration of the National Children’s Month, the Provincial Council for the Protection of Children (PCPC), in cooperation with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and DOLE-RO 6, conducted the media dialogue with children.  The media dialogue was participated in by media personalities from radio, television, and print media; out-of-school children, school children, street children, as well as children who are indigenous, abused, and under rehabilitation; and government, non-government, and other organizations concerning children.

The children had the opportunity to talk about their hopes, fears, achievements, and the impact of adult behavior on their lives.  The media professionals shared their ideas and thoughts on responsible media and child-friendly information.

The Iloilo Provincial Government showed its support by approving the Local Development Plan for Children (LDPC) to highlight the concerns of children, thereby providing resources for various programs to promote their development anchored in the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).
