Remittances: The Wages of Movement
Year Completed: 2005

This paper traces the history of migration from the Philippines and the effects of the dollars remitted by overseas Filipinos to their families, in particular, and to the Philippine economy in general. It also describes the psychology of the different remittance systems utilized by OFWs.  Finally, the paper laid down the challenge for the Philippines to institutionalize collective remittances that could be harnessed for productive investments capable of accelerating economic growth and alleviate poverty.
