This monograph examines
the extent to which the industrial sector (manufacturing,
construction and trade) adjusted its employment policies
in response to economic trends and labor market movements.
One
of the major findings of the study indicates that majority
of the establishments resorted to flexible forms of
employment. These
include the hiring of temporary/ casual, sub-contracting
and part-time work which was found to have been
necessitated by the fluctuating demands for the products
of industrial establishments.
In effect, this has generally resulted to increased
workers’ vulnerability.
