Women in Labor Law and Social Security:
Asian Experience

Year Completed: 1994

The paper presents a comparative discussion of Asian labor laws relative to women, particularly as regards protection of certain types of work, night work and maternity benefits, and the coverage of social security laws in the Asian countries cover both men ad women workers in general, with just a few specific promulgations/ pronouncements which treat women as a special group needing extra protection.  However, the implementation of these laws leaves much to be desired and accounts of violations are prevalent.

Some of the recommendations are the expansion of social coverage to include workers involved in flexible working arrangements, women in the informal sector and agricultural sector.
