Case Studies on the Occupational Safety and Health of Homeworkers in the Jewelry and Handicraft Industries

Year Completed: 1994

The plight of workers engaged in the putting-out system or so-called homeworkers has raised concern particularly with regards to their occupational safety and health conditions.  The case studies were conducted in two sectors where homeworkers abound: jewelry and handicrafts.  Meycauayan and Albay were chosen as the case study sites.  The survey identified specific occupational risks and hazards encountered by homeworkers in these industries and identified specific recommendations that could address their concerns.
