This paper focuses on the economic empowerment of
persons with disabilities (PWDs) through their employment
in gainful jobs. It
is noted that training plays an important part in
increasing PWDs’ chances of getting a decent job in an
organization traditionally dominated by able-bodied
individuals. Despite all the existing laws and statutes supporting the
cause of PWDs, however, factors such as the insufficiency
of data on PWDs, low level of employment among workers
with disabilities and the biases against the hiring of
PWDs, including the mobility problem, hampers their smooth
integration into the mainstream.
