The onset of industrialization paves the way for women to
join men in the world of work – widening their horizons
beyond the confines of the household to exercise their
skills and intellectual prowess.
Industrialization begets the so-called “double
load,” causing difficulties in juggling home and career.
The
paper raises possible means of achieving better
harmonization of work and family responsibilities in the
Philippines. It
highlights some of the efforts made to ease the situation
of working families in the country by way of statutory
rights and/ or provisions in the collective bargaining
arena between employers and employees.
It also calls for the ratification of ILO
Convention No. 156 which promotes equal opportunities and
treatment for men and women workers with family
responsibilities.
