Measures Adopted by the Philippine Government to Eliminate Child Labor

Year Completed: 1997

Aware of the seriousness and negative repercussions of the child labor problem, the Philippine government continuously adopts measures to curb the incidence of child labor in the country.

Government uses a two-pronged approach.  First, is the policy approach which involves the enactment and issuance of laws and other legal instruments to fill in existing policy gaps on child labor.  This approach acknowledges that abuse and exploitation often accompany the employment of children in industrial undertakings.  Second, is the program approach which involves the development and implementation of action programs.  These range from specific measures targeting limited groups to comprehensive interventions applicable to all groups of children engaged in child labor.
