Bridging the Work-Family Gap

Year Completed: 1997

This paper recognizes the dilemma faced by every worker in striking a balance between work and family commitments.  It provides measures which may ease the friction between these two responsibilities.  To complement these actions, pertinent laws and government programs which provide flexibility to the situation of working couples have been cited.

The study also identified the programs and interventions adopted by Pfizer, Prudential Bank, Ateneo de Manila University and Atlas Publishing Company, among others, as establishments which took the initiative in reconciling work-family accountabilities.

The study concludes that employers play critical roles in ensuring the success of this undertaking.  One is to provide mechanisms that would further improve the terms and conditions of workers with family responsibilities, as well as enhance employee-employer relationships.
